Grenada Was The Choice For Their Honeymoon

Grenada was the choice for their honeymoon. Simon and Lineth visited Grenada from the UK on their 10-day honeymoon. They stayed in St David and were in their words ‘royally treated’.

The accommodation was very favorable and with two large bedrooms, which made it very spacious for two.

The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom large. The rooms have screens that let in the breeze and keep out the insects. They both agreed that it is nice, breezy and cool up in the hills and the view is spectacular.

Lineth went on to explain that she had the best time ever and that she would not ‘go to a hotel’ in the future... She explained that the service was good, the birds woke them up in the morning, they ate freshly grown vegetables and fruits from the land and the dogs, lady and waggy, kept them secure.

The apartment is fully self-contained with a kitchen and cooking facilities. The kitchen is bright, breezy and leads onto the living area, which has very comfy chairs.

However, who wants to stay in, says Simon, when you have the outside.

Once outside, they surveyed the area around the house with the adjoining garden, hills and mountain. At times, says Lineth, it felt that we were in the forest but were still on ‘on the land’.

Lady then appeared to say hello. ‘Very friendly once she is used to you, but will let you know when there are strangers around which made us feel nice and secure’ explained Simon. He went on to talk about the spectacular view of the surrounding area and sea.

‘It’s been a very romantic holiday. The service is great, and very accommodating. Simon and Lineth would like to recommend this as a spot, that if you like to self-cater, eat vegetables and fruits from the land, have your own time and space away from the hotel then this is the place to come.

Lineth added that there is music, DVD’s, and internet access, which as a ‘new wife’ found to be invaluable in her booking mix-up with BA that give them an extra day in the sea and sun

Because of its volcanic origin, Grenada’s landscape has great beauty and variety, ranging from mountainous rainforest to dry lowlands and coastal mangroves. There are springs, rivers, waterfalls and crater lakes.
There are a large number of bays and beaches with black volcanic as well as white sand.

Grenada is known as the Isle of Spice with cloves, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, cocoa, nutmeg and mace. Grenada is a rural country and the majority of the inhabitants live in this setting.

The third largest is St David. There is a rich history of revolutions starting here, the first landing of Europeans were here, the first town ever started on the island were here, (today St David is only parish without a town).

There is a prehistoric Amerindian site, a trail of Fedon from St David to Grand Etang (the trail is now reopened and offers a wonderful days hiking), stories of pirate loot, stones, stone axes, and pottery and so on.

There are communities with wonderful names such as Après Toute, Hampstead, Thebaide and Belle Vue, all with rich tradition of agriculture and are busily replanting nutmeg trees after the ‘terrible’ hurricane Ivan.

So if you are planning a Grenada vacation and are looking for an apartment to rent in a rural setting away for all the hustle and bustle, visit the parish of St David. Oh yes, there are also eleven unspoiled beaches to choose from.

Grenada Is A Wonderful Place To Live And Visit

Grenada is a wonderful place to live and visit. Living in the countryside in Grenada is completely different from living in the town. The island is called the isle of spice. That was a true description especially in my parish, St David.

The parish is rural and agricultural. Before hurricane Ivan the mainstay of the economy was nutmeg. It is no exaggeration when I say that 90 percent of all the nutmeg, cloves and spice were lost in that terrible hurricane in 2004.

Before the hurricane the trees around me, (I owned one and a quarter acre of nutmeg, spice and cloves back then) grew to a height of between 60 to 80 feet. Most of the daylight was shut out and I never saw the sunset. Around four o’clock in the afternoon the area began to get dark as the sun sank behind the hill.

Under the nutmeg was a cool and relaxing place. Grass never grew as the shade would not permit it. The leaves from those beautiful fell to the floor and created a brown carpet that would hide the nutmegs as they fell.

I would lay in bed at night and hear the nutmeg falling from the trees. The next day the nutmeg would be picked up, prepared and taken to the nutmeg pool to be sold. The income generated from the sale of nutmegs island wide, this cared for families, paid bills, sent the kids to school, bought uniforms, bought furniture, build houses, bought cloths and created a community around the pool.

Because of the acreage of nutmeg locally, every day was selling day. I sold at least three times a week, others with more land and trees, sold daily.

St David is truly and agricultural parish. It is the only parish without a town but has a very rich historical past. The first Europeans that landed on the island hundreds of years landed in this parish.

With the nutmeg trees gone from the landscape, the whole parish is opened up and we now have wonderful views of the coastline.

I miss my trees and the income that went with them. I am planting back but it takes time – between five to seven years. You can visit us in our wonderful parish.

Two bedroom self contained apartment for rent in Hampstead, St David. It is fully furnished and parking is available.

Hampstead is to the extreme north of the parish and is nestled under the Grand Etang mountain range.

The climate is very cool almost cold at times. It gets very misty in the rainy season verging on fog. There are many rivers, birds, tattoo and manicou and the Mona Monkey that wakes up you up in the morning as they come down to feed and harass the dogs.

We are very lucky to live in such a temperate climate and because of this the plant life is varied and interesting.

The above areas are located in St David’s which is the third largest parish in Grenada. There are 26 villages in the parish and neighbouring villages to Hampstead are Après Toute, Belle Vue, Thebaide and Pomme Rose. There are eleven beaches in St David and many of them are no more than a ten minute drive away.

So, if you are looking for peaceful, quiet holiday full of rest this lovely apartment in the heart of the countryside will suit you. Tours can be arranged to see the area and meet the local people.

Airport pickup and hired car facilities can be arranged as well as cooking and cleaning if needed. The above will incur extra costs.
